The boundaries of these blocks are labelled in degrees(\u00b0) and minutes(&#8216;) &#8211; eg. -26\u00b02&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You might notice that the 1-minute blocks are contained within a bigger 5-minute by 5-minute block &#8211; which is given a number &#8211; eg. 1710 &amp; 1782 in the example above. The twenty five 1-minute blocks are labelled a-z (but no &#8216;i&#8217;).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Applying for a 40e permit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As a part of applying for a 40e permit, you need to define the area for the permit in terms of 1-minute blocks. For each block, you need to name the block (a-z) and the 5-minute block that it falls within. You can use the &#8216;<em><strong>WA graticular blocks<\/strong><\/em>&#8216; overlay to get this information for any location in WA. Use this at home or in the field. See the screenshot at the bottom of this page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Staying within the 40e permit area<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the field you need to prospect <strong>only within the 40e permit area<\/strong>. By marking out the boundary in the Trilobite app you can check at any time that your current location (the blue circle) is within the 40e permit area. You can either mark the corners (simplest option) or mark out a &#8216;trail&#8217; around the boundary &#8211; read the next 2 sections for details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mark the corners of your permit boundary (simple)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Download the &#8216;<strong>WA <em>graticular blocks<\/em><\/strong>&#8216; map and set this as your overlay<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Zoom into the area of your 40e permit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For each corner, zoom in to maximise accuracy, tap the teardrop icon<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"24\" height=\"24\" class=\"wp-image-14871\" style=\"width: 24px;\" src=\"https:\/\/trilobite.solutions\/maps\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/ic_add_location_36pt.png\" alt=\"\">.  Tap &#8216;<strong>Tap on the map<\/strong>&#8216;, then tap on the corner.  Set the colour of the marker to something distinctive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mark a &#8216;trail&#8217; along your permit boundary (advanced)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>convert<\/strong> the coordinates for each corner to <strong>decimal degrees<\/strong> using the conversion page below. Leave the &#8216;seconds&#8217; value blank.<br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcc.gov\/media\/radio\/dms-decimal\">https:\/\/www.fcc.gov\/media\/radio\/dms-decimal<\/a><br>(You might want to write down each longitude-latitude pair on a piece of paper)<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>on a PC<\/strong>, download and open the <strong>40e_permits.csv template<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/trilobite.solutions\/40e_permits.csv\">click here<\/a><br>You can edit the .csv file with a<strong> text editor<\/strong> (NOT a word processor) or<strong> spreadsheet<\/strong>. If you don&#8217;t have a spreadsheet, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.libreoffice.org\/download\/download-libreoffice\/\">LibreOffice<\/a> is excellent and free thanks to the Open Source community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>replace the coordinates in the <strong>40e_permits.csv<\/strong> file with the coordinates of your permit\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the <strong>negative number<\/strong> is the <strong>latitude<\/strong> (ie. S hemisphere)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>add more rows if your permit has <strong>more than 4 corners<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>leave the <strong>speed<\/strong> values as is<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>use the <strong>same id<\/strong> on all rows<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the first coordinate needs to be <strong>repeated in the final row<\/strong><br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>save the <strong>40e_permits.csv<\/strong> file, and email it to yourself<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>on your phone\/tablet, open the email, tap on the <strong>40e_permits.csv<\/strong> file, and then choose to open it with the Trilobite app (<img decoding=\"async\" height=\"24px\" width=\"24px\" src=\"http:\/\/trilobite.solutions\/trilobite-master.svg\">)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"320\" height=\"513\" src=\"https:\/\/trilobite.solutions\/maps\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/40e_permit_example.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-638\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trilobite.solutions\/maps\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/40e_permit_example.png 320w, https:\/\/trilobite.solutions\/maps\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/40e_permit_example-187x300.png 187w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Two 40e permits imported as .csv files<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advising the explorer and DMIRS of gold finds<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>40e permit holders must advise the exploration licence holder and DMIRS of any mineral recovered once the permit has expired, or has been cancelled or surrendered.
